owen the one year old
I have a toddler, no longer a baby. It's crazy the emotional rollercoaster of being a mom. I'm so happy he is over is acid-reflux colicky non stop crying days. But it's so hard to see him get older. It's the best when he learns something new, but sad when he gives up his baby habits. But it really does just get better and better every day. Owen as a one year old is the best! He is so funny.
Owen is still mostly taking two naps. He wakes up around 7:45-8:30 in the morning, and takes a good 1.5-2 hour nap around 11. He can usually stay up for 4 hours after his first nap so we have to leave the house or we both go crazy! We have made a few good friends in Holladay now, so with play date, errands, and family in town we usually have something to do! I think I'm finally adjusting to the mom schedule :) He is starting to fight his second nap around 4-5. He usually sleeps for 45min to an hour. Then it's busy with dinner, bath, and playing until bedtime around 8. Sadly, he is still waking up once in the middle of the night to nurse. My pediatrician has told me to stop that feeding, but with him getting sick, teething, and traveling we haven't had a chance to drop that last feed. I really can't wait though.
I'm also in the process of starting to wean from nursing. Don't get me wrong, I have loved nursing Owen and plan on nursing all my babies at least a year. But he has not been the easiest nurser. He was very hard when he was little, and I walked and bounced on an exercise ball in order to get him to eat. Then he got much better. But he is still particular. He never will nurse when he wakes up from a nap, only nurses to sleep.. which I didn't want to do. And if we weren't in his dark quiet nursery with no distractions, then he also wouldn't nurse. So I thought... no big deal! Switching to cows milk will be a piece of cake and I'm excited. He tried cows milk. And even liked it. But then minute I tried dropping a nursing session and replace with a cows milk of sippy, all he wanted was to nurse and there was no getting the sippy even close to his mouth. I've even tried the sippy full of pumped breast milk. Oh well. Hopefully he makes the transition eventually. But it is a little harder to give up that nursing than I thought. It really is special and I have loved being able too.
^^ his two front teeth finally popped through! that grin melts my heart.
^^he loves to play by his high chair // we attended a friends fiesta bday party. owen wasn't into it.
^^ We love when we get to see our cousin Holden. The two boys were so cute holding hands back there.
^^ We went to the Tracy Aviary on a $1 admission day. Owen loved all the birdies!
^^First time in a pool at Porter's house. He wasn't very brame // being a stinker in sunday school
^^ this poop in bath thing has now happened 3 more times since this picture. talk about nasty...
^^ I love these two boys. And Owen loves his dad and being thrown high in the air! I also love our view where we live!
^^ Owen would have his soothers all day long if we let him. The minute we go into his bedroom, he climbs up onto his stool and reaches through this crib to get them.
^^ Owen and all his BFFs at the mall.

^^ learning to stand by himself on the mantel // our favorite new pjs! and standing on his own!

^^ if only he would keep a baseball cap on // it had been awhile since i had a good rolls pic and i needed to get it before he skinnied out!
This month Owen's stats are
18.6 inch head (75%)
23.38 lbs (59%)
30.5 inches (73%)
He really has thinned out which is shocking because he feels so heavy and solid. and well, that picture up there says it all. ^^
This month Owen can:
-make a monkey and snake noise
-is a little copy cat with his babbles and noises
-still saying hi about 100 times a day and i love it!
-Took his first steps may 10th, but didn't really start walking on his -own the week of his birthday.
-shakes his head no
-when you say mama, he says dada (dad is his favorite word)
-has 8 teeth
-climbs out of his high chair unless buckled in
-eats almost anything and loves food. except for potatoes,
It is crazy the difference between 10-12 months old. Suddenly Owen seems to understand what we are saying to him. He is always shocking us with new things he has learned. One day i was telling Brian that Owen had a new dance move, and we didn't necessarily teach him the word dance, and he just danced on command. Or we always put his soothers in his crib after his nap, but one day I said, show me where your soother goes, and he just took them out of his mouth and threw them into the crib. I was soo surprised! Especially since he loves his soothers more than anything.
At the beginning of June, Owen and I went on a girls trip to Arizona with Chanel and Kimber. It was so fun! Owen was lucky to crash our party. Seriously girls trips are the best and whoever invented them is my favorite person! We did miss Brian though.
^^Owens first time in a swimming pool. I wouldn't exactly call him a water baby.
^^ The place we stayed had this pool that was so warm and had a sandy beach leading into the pool. It was so fun and Owen liked that much much better.
^^ Pazookie!
^Owen met Enzo and they were instant friends.
^^ Bahama Bucks had THE BEST shaved ice. Although I tend to like all shaved ice.
^^ Owen did like AZ but he was very happy to be home // matchy matchy right down to our shoes
^^ my little laundry buddy. // the last picture before my baby turned 1 (sob)
And to finish off the post, here are Owens little first steps. Birthday post to come!
